Asus, the Chinese smartphone manufacturer has seen a great response with their Asus Zenfone series in the country. Right after the launch of their latest flagship device the Asus Zenfone 3, Asus launched Asus ZenFone 3 Max which is a cheaper version of Asus ZenFone 3 but comes with a major battery boost. Taking the Max line forward, Asus has equipped the device with most of the features from the Asus Zenfone 3 device but it is for the budget conscious buyers. The Asus Max range focuses entirely on the battery and the batteries keep the phone juiced up for a full 2 days, even with heavy use. It is definitely a blessing in the modern days of portable chargers and constant connectivity. However, with the Asus Zenfone 3 Max, Asus has gone one step ahead and decided to start manufacturing the smartphone in India. However, it is not the first Asus smartphone to be manufactured in the country.
Asus is a part of the Make in India campaign which has been promoted actively by Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and according to the campaign, most manufacturing units are to be shifted to India and India be made the manufacturing hub. For now, while the smartphones and other gadgets are assembled in India, they are manufactured in China or other cheaper economies as the laws there are more convenient and the manufacturing costs lower. However, with the Make in India scheme, PM Narendra Modi is trying to get most brands to start manufacturing in the country. This will not only lower the costs of the gadgets as companies can save amounts on custom duties but also on other costs. While there are some brands that are actively manufacturing devices and gadgets in India, others still stick to international manufacturers. However, for Asus, this will be their third smartphone to be manufactured in India. The Asus Zenfone 3 Max will be manufactured at the Asus manufacturing facility in Daman. The manufacturing is expected to commence sometime in December.
According to Asus, the decision to manufacture the Asus ZenFone 3 Max was taken owing to the popularity of the device. Though no figures have been released by the brand, Asus ZenFone 3 Max is one of their most popular smartphone models in the country and owing to the tremendous response by the Indian audiences, Asus plans to ramp up their production and also manufacture the device in India. Previously, Asus has manufactured other smartphones from the Zenfone series, namely Asus Zenfone 2 Laser and Asus Zenfone Go at the same Daman facility in India. Peter Chang, Region Head – South Asia & Country Manager for ASUS India said regarding their new announcement, “Besides our headquarters, Taiwan, India is amongst the most important markets for us and we are constantly looking to strengthen our presence and operations in the country. We are excited to announce another smartphone that will be manufactured locally, apart from Zenfone 2 Laser and Zenfone Go.
