From Qualcomm’s latest processor to latest smartphone by Honor and a flagship electric car, a lot happened on the Day 1 of CES 2017, being held at Las Vegas Convention Center. The main event starts from January 5 to January 8. But companies turned to display their products in the pre-CES event along with other conferences and talks on how technology will fare during the rest of 2017 and years to come. World’s largest annual electronic festival Consumer Electronic Show 2017 opened yesterday and the event saw a slew of product launches. These product launches are just not an ordinary launch but a sneak preview into the future of technology.

Compared to the last five decades, advancement in technology has taken many folds in the last decade itself and the peak is only going to get humongous with the advent of latest milestones achieved with Artificial Intelligence and Virtual Reality. CES 2017, particularly has Artificial Intelligence (AI), Virtual Reality (VR), Augmented Reality (AR) and Internet of Things (IoT). Processors installed in devices are getting smaller, faster and intelligent, whereas smartphones are becoming better and more personalized, especially with AI assistants making way into our devices. Until few years ago, selfie or the front-facing camera or the dual-led flash on rear were the ‘it thing’. However, the latest trends in smartphone camera is the dual-rear camera setup. CES 2017 will also become the witness of electric-cars on road by next year.

Here is all the exciting revelations made on the Day 1 of CES 2017:

Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 Chipset

The processor making giant earlier revealed that they are going to develop SoC that would revolutionize how our devices work. Interestingly, features of the flagship Snapdragon 835 SoC are not just limited to smartphones. It was believed that Qualcomm would be showcasing first of smartphones powered on Snapdragon 835 processor. However the company limited themselves to introduce path-breaking features of their latest processor. Snapdragon 835 highlights of better AR/VR integration, improved battery strength with fast charging capabilities and fast internet connectivity.

These processors are made of nanomaterials—molecules and atoms less than 100 nanometers (nm) in size that exhibit different properties than their larger-particle counterparts: some enhanced nanomaterial characteristics include lighter weight, higher strength, and greater chemical reactivity. Because of these special qualities, nanomaterials have the potential to transform a number of industries from consumer tech to energy and health” said Qualcomm.

Qualcomm has collaborated with Osterhout Design Group (ODG) to launch Augmented Reality SmartGlasses R-8 and R-9, two of the first devices powered by the Snapdragon 835 processor. The latest processor offers better 3D rendering and improved colour spectrum.

Honor 6X

Huawei’s subsidiary brand Honor launched their latest smartphone Honor 6X with dual camera setup. Honor 6X features a metal uni-body design, 5.5 inch FullHD display with the dual-camera on the rear, a 12 megapixel sensor and a 2 megapixel sensor with wide focus to give shallow depth-of-field effect in photographs. Honor has announced the smartphone 6X at a price of Rs 17,000, which is an affordable price for a smartphone to pack in top-notch specification. Honor’s latest handset also packs in a 3340 mAh battery and under the hood Honor 6X runs on HiSilicon Kirin 655 processor.

The phone has been launched in two variants of 3GB RAM with 32GB inbuilt storage and 4GB RAM with 64GB inbuilt storage. Honor 6X also features a hybrid SIM slot and runs on Android Marshmallow 6.0 with EMUI 5 skin on top. The device has hit global markets and is expected to launch in India by the end of January 2017. We predict the device might make its way into market with Honor’s past e-commerce partner Flipkart.

Even with dual-camera setup Honor 6X cannot be compared with likes of Apple iPhone 7 Plus and Honor 8, which delivers premium experience of dual-camera lens photography. However, at a price of Rs 17,000 Honor 6X is a best buy if dual-camera photography excites you.
