Nokia N97 vs. iPhone 3G

Fight!!!

I hope that we’ll soon stop thinking about new touch-screen phones in terms of whether any of them has what it takes to be an “iPhone killer.”

For now, though, I can’t help myself. The Nokia N97 just announced itself at the Nokia World show in Barcelona. Will it murder Apple’s handset? It looks intriguing from a hardware standpoint, at least. And it’s certainly a more interesting phone than the company’s lower-end 5800 XpressMusic.

The N97 has a screen that’s the same size as the iPhone 3G’s, but with higher resolution; with 32GB of RAM flash memory, it also has double the memory of the highest-capacity iPhone plus a MicroSD slot for up to 16GB more memory at a time. And its 5-megapixel, video-capable camera certainly trumps the iPhone’s camera.

So what’s exactly do we have here? Yes, some reasons why the N97 is much better than the iPhone 3G. Let’s just get started, shall we?

1) Nokia N97 does 16:9 video. The iPhone doesn’t even do video. So, how can you go to a Himesh Reshamiya concert and record it to taunt your friends?

2) It has a 5 megapixel camera. The iPhone only has 2, and the quality isn’t even close. The camera also has a dual LED flash, so you can take pictures in the dark where the iPhone can’t.

3) I can type three Facebook status messages on the N97’s nice QWERTY keybord in the time that I can type two on the iPhone.

4) It does copy and paste, so you can copy URLs to send to your friends. The iPhone can’t do that.

5) It has replaceable batteries so you can charge up three batteries and Facebook for days, while the iPhone needs to be hooked back up to the wall for recharging after a few hours.

6) The GPS device does turn-by-turn and has a built in compass, so you’ll get to your parties faster than with the iPhone, which doesn’t have a compass and doesn’t do turn-by-turn.

The iPhone cannot be killed, just as the iPod couldn't be killed, but you can offer alternatives and competition. The iPhone has 2 years head start and only now are other devices even beginning to catch up. Think about what the 3rd Gen iPhone is going to be able to do...

Lotsa reason for my above prediction besides the fact that i saw the omen. The omen came in the form of info that the N97 carries a Single CPU, 434 MHz ARM11 when the N95 I have has Dual 332 MHz Texas Instruments OMAP 2420. A weak brain on such a powerfull phone makes it have more brawns than brains.
