Mukesh Ambani launches “Reliance Jio Happy New Year” offer – all services completely free till March 2017!
The new offer, which is basically an extension of their Reliance Jio Welcome Offer, which Reliance Jio offered initial Jio buyers at launch, is called the "Jio Happy New Year" offer.
Christmas and New Year have sure come early for Reliance Jio users! It’s a double whammy for Indians as Mukhesh Ambani, the owner of Reliance Jio, who announced the new plans at a shareholders meet today included both, new and old users in the offering. While he was expected to make the announcement for new Reliance Jio users, he stretched it out to even the older users and clearly made a lot of Indians happy. While it is not so much of a surprise as such an announcement was expected from Mukesh regarding Reliance Jio and the plans, the suddenness of it surprised everyone. General consensus was that the elder Ambani brother would announce an extension of their present Reliance Jio Welcome Offer on December 28th, as that happens to be the birth day of late Dhirubhai Ambani, the founding father of Reliance. However, the information on the first day of the last month sure added to the smiles!
It was only a day prior that the media were intimidated of a new happening at Reliance Jio offices and the first expectation was of the Reliance Jio Welcome Offer extension. And we were not disappointed. Mukesh Ambani, the man behind Reliance Jio 4G connectivity in the country has announced a new offer for all Reliance Jio users. The new offer, which is basically an extension of their Reliance Jio Welcome Offer, which Reliance Jio offered initial Jio buyers at launch, is called the “Jio Happy New Year” offer. As the offer is the same as the initial Jio Welcome Offer, the terms and conditions of the offer do not really change. Under the new offer, all Reliance Jio users (existing ones are counted too) will get free Jio services till March 2017. This includes the complete bouquet of Jio services – calling, messaging, internet services and all apps. The offer is valid till the end of the financial year – that is till the end of March 2017 or till 31st March 2017. The new offer commences December 4th 2016. There are 2 Reliance Jio SIM cards – Orange and Blue. What’s the difference and which one should you buy?
Apart from the Jio Happy New Year offer, Mukesh Ambani also announced a host of other services and offers and also the extension of some already existing services. He stressed on the Reliance Jio SIM Home Delivery service which has recently been launched in the country. Under this offer, people having the invite sent by Reliance can get their Reliance Jio SIM card home delivered. The activation takes just 5 minutes and all the users need to provide is their Aadhaar card number using which their details would be updated using eKYC. Additionally, Mukesh Ambani also announced that Reliance Jio now supports MNP or Mobile Number Portability, so users need not buy a new SIM but can simply port their existing number from their existing account to Reliance Jio without any hassle. Reliance Jio is expanding and Mukesh Ambani has plans to expand MyJio to over 100 cities in this one month – by December 31st 2016. That is quite a plan, Mr. Ambani! Reliance Jio to launch phone with unlimited voice and video calling for just Rs 1000!
Mukesh Ambani also used the opportunity to address some of the major concerns Reliance Jio users have been facing – that of call drops and poor connectivity. He blamed the competing operators for intervening and blocking Reliance Jio calls. He claimed that over 900 crore Reliance Jio calls were blocked by 3 leading operators in the country, although no operators were named. However, he also claimed that with the intervention of TRAI, the services have improved and now, with the lines approved, Reliance Jio users will be able to experience high quality network and calling. He has been positive about the growth of the network and the offerings. Mukesh Ambani also took the opportunity to appreciate Narendra Modi’s demonetisation move and lauded the effort to root out black money from the country. It would be wise to note that Reliance too has jumped in on the cashless economy bandwagon with Jio Money wallet offering. Reliance Jio Airtel 4G war : Jio wins Round 1 over Airtel, Vodafone
It has been widely reported before that Reliance would extend their Reliance Jio services till March 2017 as Mukesh Ambani has been dissatisfied with customer response to Jio network and the issue of call drops. The users would not have to pay for services they could not avail or were frustrated by. Airtel, Vodafone, Idea and other operators have also been against Reliance Jio claiming that Reliance has been flouting TRAI rules by offering their Reliance Jio Welcome Offer till December 31st 2016. According to TRAI norms, no promotional offer can extend beyond a period of 90 days. The date would expire on December 3rd, and thus the new Reliance Jio Happy New Year offer which will be valid from the 4th of December. However, the new offer too extends to 90-day limit set by TRAI as it is vaild till 31st March, way more than 90 days. We wonder if this means there’s a third extension for the free services Reliance is planning sometime in February?
