12 Pictures of the new Indian Railways coaches will make you forget even aeroplanes!

Indian Railways is all set to launch their Make in India railway coaches soon and the trial runs for these coaches has already commenced between Bhopal and Bina railway stations in Madhya Pradesh. The coaches are uber comfortable and designed with many high-end features. The train experience will make it relatively more comfortable and convenient, for both, sleeper and sitting coaches with lesser jerks, better food, better sanitation and even a better decor. The new coaches have been made in India under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s new ‘Make in India’ campaign. The new coaches are manufactured at Coach Rehabilitation Workshop (CRWS) in Nishaputra, Bhopal.

The project was actually launched 4 years previously, in 2011 by the Indian Railways and the coaches were designed by West Central Railway (WCR) with all modern features and amenities. However, it was only now under the Make in India campaign that the coaches finally are getting a trial run and the features being explored. A total of 111 coaches are planned (87 non AC coaches, 17 coaches for 3-tier AC, five for 2-tier AC and one each for 1-tier AC. Chair car coaches are also planned) of which the trial run was done with 24 coaches at the speed of 120 kilometer per hour. Railways Ministry plans to run the coaches soon and the coaches will first run on premium trains like Rajdhani and Shatabdi and slowly, will be rolled out across all passenger trains in India.

The interiors of the coaches are well spaced with more comfortable seating arrangements and the side-berths which are quite cramped now will also have more space and be well managed. Additionally, the material used in making the seats is fire-proof, thus making it safer for passengers during train mishaps. The seats are designed more comfortably with special technology to absorb jerks and make the journey smoother for passengers. Additionally, the middle and upper berths will have side railings and stronger support straps instead of the present chains.

The colour of the interiors has also been made more bright and chirpy, as opposed to the current drab theme. The flooring has been created specially to give a carpeted look. Though it is not actually a carpet, the paint finish makes it look better and almost resemble a carpet. In terms of technology, the coaches will now come with charging points for phones and laptops along with special LED reading lights unlike the present yellow bulbs. Each of the coaches will also have 2 fire extinguishers at both ends.

One of the major issues with Indian trains is the system of disposing human waste. So long, we had open toilets, disposing the human waste right on the tracks. However, with the new trains, bio-degradable toilets have been introduced. The environmental friendly bio-degradable toilets will improve sanitisation.  We really can’t wait to see the new, improved trains!
