Harry Potter is one of those creations that defined an entire generation. It redefined the definitions of witches and wizards and made people believe in magic. From the soul message that love is more powerful than hate and the innocence of each and every character melted millions of hearts and defined the lives of many. While this incredible series is highly appreciated and adored, here are seven facts you probably did not know about the series.
1. Harry’s glasses
In an interview, J K Rowling revealed that she made Harry wear glasses to make him vulnerable. It defines the basic though that every person wizard or not is human and has flaws and errors. Nobody is perfect and nobody can be.
The name Voldemort comes from French and means ‘Fight of death’. Rowling also stated that Voldemort cannot experience love as he was conceived under a love potion.
Dementors are the soul sucking creatures who feed in on happiness. These guards of the Azkaban Prison represent depression and are based on Rowling’s own battle against the disease.
4. Ronald Weasley
J. K. Rowling almost killed off the character of Ron in the middle of the series and had this thought when she was not in a happy state of mind. She also intended for Harry and Hermione to be a couple but changed her mind.
5. Albus Dumbledore
The media and fans went haywire when J K Rowling declared that he was gay. However fewer people know that he fell in love with Gellert Grindlewald in his youth when they together planned to take over the muggle world for ‘The Greater Good’.
6. The tale of three brothers
The tale of three brothers is the legend behind the Deathly Hallows, namely, the Elder wand, the resurrection stone and the invisibility cloak. This story is based on The Pardoner’s Tale by Geoffrey Chaucer.
The beautiful white owl that was his most dependable companion in his magical journey was killed to mark the end of Harry’s childhood. Her death also represented loss of innocence and security.
