On this occasion, we share some memorable quotes by the Father of the Nation, Mahatma Gandhi. Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi aka MK Gandhi and Mahatma Gandhi was born on October 2, 1869. He was a prominent leader of the pre-independence era and an important part of the freedom struggle, behind movements like the Satyagraha, Dandi March, Quit India Movement, etc. Mahatma Gandhi is also termed as Bapu or Father by his followers. Mahatma Gandhi led several nationwide movements and campaigns for India’s independence, and also worked for ending untouchability, eradication of poverty, expanding women’s rights and ultimately establishing Swaraj.

India gained freedom from the British Raj on August 15, 1947, after living under the colonial rule of the British for nearly 200 years. The British East India Company came into India in 1600. The freedom movement began with the Sepoy mutiny in 1857 led by Mangal Pandey. Several freedom-fighters fought against foreign domination and sacrificed their lives for the country. Gandhiji started the challenge of removing Britishers’ Salt Tax in the year 1930. He initiated the Quit India movement. Gandhiji joined hands with Indian National Congress (INC) party and brought national issues into the limelight. Mahatma Gandhi always believed in non-violence and yet challenged the Britishers and in the process got himself imprisoned for many years.
