Prakash Javadekar is an Indian politician who is a member of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and currently serving in the Narendra Modi government as Minister of Environment, Forest and Climate Change and as Minister of Information and Broadcasting.
During the first Modi government, Javadekar, who was re-elected to the Rajya Sabha from Madhya Pradesh in 2014, was appointed Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs and Minister of Human Resource Development. He had also led the Indian delegation to the 2015 United Nations Climate Change Conference.
Javadekar had taken an interest in politics since his college days and had been a member of Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP), a right-wing all India student organisation affiliated to the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS). He had taken part in student protests against the then government led by Prime Minister Indira Gandhi when Emergency was declared between 1975–77. He had led a non-violent movement in Pune and was arrested for several months.
Personal Life:
Javadekar, who belongs to a Kayastha family, was born on January 30, 1951 in Pune, Maharashtra to Keshav Javadekar and Rajani, and he has one sister, a teacher. He completed his B.Com from the University of Pune and is married to Dr. Prachee Javadekar. His wife is a leading education researcher and consultant, and he has two children with her.
Career:
Javadekar was National Secretary and then General Secretary in the Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha from 1984-1990. He was then appointed State Secretary and Campaign Chief of the BJP in Maharashtra in the year 1989 till 1995. He was then elected to the Maharashtra Legislative Council between 1990 and 2002.

He has published a number of books in Marathi, namely, Bekaricha Jwalamukhi (Problem of Unemployment), Nanenidhiche Karz (IMF Loan), Shetkaryanchi Karzmukti (Farm Loan Waiver), Mahagaicha Bhasmasoor (Problem of Inflation).
