Deepika Padukone is a famous Bollywood actress. She is also amongst the highest paid film actor in the country and enjoys an international repute and fan following. The long legged damsel was born on 5 January 1986 in Copenhagen to badminton champion Prakash Padukone and Ujjala. She also has a younger sister Anisha who is a golfer. Deepika was born in Copenhagen, Denmark and the family shifted to Bangalore when Deepika was only one year old. Deepika too wanted to be a badminton player like her father and trained to be one. All throughout her schooling from Sophia High School and even through Mount Carmel College, she continued to train and her daily schedule included early morning practice. She even went on to play national level badminton till she realized that her true calling was not badminton. Desirous of modeling, she started her acting career and even enrolled in Indira Gandhi National Open University. Deepika met with instant success in modeling and she was launched very successfully as a Liril girl in 2004. She made her ramp debut atLakme Fashion Week in 2005. She was much appreciated and rose to fame when she was identified as the Model of the Year. She started receiving offers for movies and Farah Khan announced that she would be launching Deepika Padukone in her movie Happy New Year. However, the movie was shelved at the time and Deepika instead debuted in a Kannada movie Aishwarya opposite actor Upendra in the year 2006. The movie was a success and in the meanwhile, she started working in Farah Khans remake of the movie Karz with a twist Om shanty Om opposite superstar Shah Rukh Khan. Deepika Padukone played a twin role of Shanti a yesteryear actress who was murdered by her lover. Her murder is witnessed by a struggling television actor Om played by Shah Rukh Khan who too dies in the incident. Om then reincarnates as a very rich and successful actor and meets Sandy, a look alike of Shanti. The movie did fairly well at the box office and Deepika was hailed as the most promising new comer. She even received the Filmfare Award for Best Debutante. Deepika was not that lucky in her subsequent releases however. She was next seen in Bachna Ae Haseeno opposite Ranbir Kapoor in 2008. The movie did not do that well and Deepika was widely criticized for her acting skills. In early 2009 her movie opposite Akshay Kumar titles Chandi Chowk to China also released which was a big dud. The film flopped and Deepika was highly ridiculed. However, in the same year Imtiaz Ali directed Love Aaj Kal featuring Deepika Padukone, Saif Ali Khan and Rishi Kapoor also released. Deepika portrayed the role of Meera Pundit, a headstrong career oriented woman who decides to leave her lover for her job prospects. The movie was a high grosser and Deepikas role of a feisty and modern woman much appreciated by fans as well as critics. The journey was just starting for Deepika and with every success came failures as well. Her next releases Karthik calling Karthik and Housefull failed to get her appreciations. Though her next movie Lafangey Parindey failed at the box office, Deepika Padukones acting as a blind girl was widely appreciated. She was seen in a period drama Khelein Hum Jee Jaan Se in 2010 opposite Abhishek Bachchan. The movie though was critically applauded, failed to shine at the box office and was a commercial failure. She seemed to slow down in the following year and started 2011 with a highly successful item number which was aremix of a super hit song Dum Maaro Dum. She was seen in the movie Aarakshan in the same year opposite Saif Ali Khan. The movie also had industry big wigs like Amitabh Bachchan and Manoj Bajpayee. The movie had drawn a lot of attention but failed to deliver at the box office. The next release for Padukone was Rohit Dhawans romantic comedy Desi Boyz which paired her against John Abraham. The movie was a moderate success though Deepika failed to impress the critics. Her next release however changed the negative tide. Deepika was seen in Cocktail again paired opposite Saif Ali Khan. She portrayed the role of a strong career driven female who lives her life as per own terms and condition. The movie was box office success and Deepika won various nominations for her role. She was next seen in an ensemble cast in Race 2, again paired against Saif Ali Khan. 2013 was truly Deepika Padukones year and she featured in 4 top grosser of the year including Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani opposite her former boyfriend Ranbir Kapoor. The movie did exceptionally well. Her next release of the movie Chennai Express opposite Shah Rukh Khan was another super hit and Deepika was the reigning queen of Bollywood. Her tamil accent in the movie was highly appreciated and loved by the masses and the critics alike. Her next movie was Sanjay Leela Bhansalis adaptation of Romeo Juliet titles Goliyon ki Rasleela Ram Leela. She played the role of Leela opposite Ranveer Singh. The movie was a super hit and critics and fans lapped up praises for Deepika. She won many awards for both the movies as well as a Filmfare Aware for the latter. More recently Deepika was seen in Shoojit Sircars comedy Piku in which she played the title role of a Bengali architect who takes care of her ageing father played by Amitabh Bachchan. The movie was extremely well received and won Deepika Padukone Filmfare and Screen Awards for the Best Actress category. Though her next movie Tamasha did not do well, Deepikas acting was much appreciated. Her last release on the silver screen was Bajirao Mastaani which was amongst the highest grosser in the year and even won her a nomination but she won an award for her stellar performance in Piku. She was also seen in a Hollywood Flick opposite action hero Vin Diesel in XXX Return of Xander Cage. Deepika Padukone also had a much talked about affair with country heart throb Ranbir Kapoor. The affair was talk of the town but more famous was the breakup. She was later linked up with Siddharth Mallya and then more recently with co-actor Ranveer Singh. Though, she continues to deny the link up. She is at present the highest paid actress and is also an endorser of various brands.
