Dharmendra Pradhan

Dharmendra Pradhan is a BJP leader who is the Minister of Petroleum and Natural Gas and Minister of Steel in the current Narendra Modi government. He also held the Minister of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship portfolio in the 2014 Modi Ministry.

In March 2018, Dharmendra Pradhan was elected to the Rajya Sabha from Madhya Pradesh, apart from that he was a member of the fourteenth Lok Sabha representing the Deogarh constituency of Odisha. He was also a member of the 12th Assembly of Odisha from 2000-2004 after he was elected from the Pallalhara constituency.

Pradhan, who is a member of Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP), is also a BJP General Secretary was assigned additional responsibility to look after the party activities in Jharkhand in August 2011. He is also a close confidant of party president Amit Shah and was one of the chief architects of the victory of BJP in Bihar in the Lok Sabha election of 2014.

He was Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha National President from 2004 to 2006, and was in-charge of Chhattisgarh from 2007 to 2010, during which time he was also the National Secretary of the party. Pradhan was in-charge of Karnataka BJP from 2011 to 2013 and has been in-charge of Bihar BJP since 2013.

Personal Life:

Pradhan was born on June 26, 1969 in Talcher, Odisha. He is the son of former Union Minister and senior BJP leader Dr Debendra Pradhan and Basanta Manjari Pradhan, and he is married to Mridula and they have two children, one son and one daughter.

Early Life:

He did his M.A. in Anthropology from Utkal University, which is the oldest university in Odisha and the 17th-oldest university in India located in Bhubaneswar. Pradhan then became an ABVP activist in the year 1983, and was Talcher College Students' Union president in 1985, after which he became National Secretary of ABVP in 1995.
