Ganesh Chaturthi 2017 falls on Friday, August 25. Ganesh Chaturthi is observed on the birthday of Lord Ganesha, one of India's favourite gods. Ganesh Chaturthi is also the day when the annual Ganesh Festival or Ganeshotsav celebrations begin. The 10-day festival ends with Anant Chaturdashi - the day on which the Ganesha idols welcomed in our homes and colonies every year are immersed. The process of immersion is called Ganesh Visarjan. The concept of the Ganesh Festival was first started by freedom fighter Bal Gangadhar Tilak to bring in some unity in Indian youth during the British Raj. The tradition continues and the festival still unites all and people resolve their differences in the name of the Lord.
This year, too, people are gearing up for the Ganesh Festival which is more than a month away. Big and small Ganesha idols are already available in Mumbai and the rest of Maharashtra and artisans are working on fresh ones. The ideas for decorations are also being exchanged at home and by the ganpati mandals of each locality. ALSO SEE: This Ganpati Aarti Medley A Capella by Websinger finalists will make your day!
