Kapil Sharma is an Indian stand-up comedian and currently the host of The Kapil Sharma Show. Kapil Sharma is a very popular celebrity in India and apart from being a stand-up comedian, he is also an actor, TV host and producer. He is also the winner of The Great Indian Laughter Challenge in the year 2007 as well as he is the winner of six seasons in Sony TVs Comedy Circus. He has also been the host of Comedy Nights with Kapil from June 2013 to January 2016 and he made his Bollywood debut in Abbas Mustans romantic-comedy Kis Kisko Pyaar Karoon in September 2015.Born on 2nd April 1981 in Amritsar, Punjab, his father Jeetendra Kumar was a head constable in Punjab police and his mother is a housewife. Kapil completed his schooling from Shri Ram Ashram Sen. Sec. School in Amritsar and then he completed his graduation from The Hindu College in Amritsar and then from Apeejay College of Fine Arts, Jalandhar. He has a brother Ashok Kumar who is a constable, his sister name is Pooja Sharma. In 2004, his father died of cancer. Kapil Sharma came from a middle class family with no background of entertainment and he had to struggle a lot to get roles. In his early twenties, he started his career as a theatre actor and was paid minimum wages. He even did stand-up comedy for free. He had his passion in singing and he shifted to Mumbai to become a singer. Sharma had worked in the show Hasde Hasde Raho which was broadcasted on MH One channel, but he rose to fame after winning the popular comedy realty television show The Great Indian Laughter Challenge in 2007 and won the prize money of 10 Lakhs. Later he participated in Sony Televisions Comedy Circus and won six seasons of the show. His comedy timing with Sumona Chakrawati was appreciated by everyone and he began to become more popular entertainer. He then hosted the dance reality show Jhalak Dikhla Jaa Season 6 and later he hosted another comedy show Chhote Miyan. He also participated as a contestant in the show Ustaadon ka Ustaad in 2008 and then in 2013, he launched his own show Comedy Nights with Kapil under his own banner k9 Productions. The show was broadcasted on Colors channel. The show was very popular among masses and celebrities from bollywood actors to sportsperson were a guest on his show. Kapil Sharma became more popular in the masses and he was then offered different roles and shows. He was the co-host of the 60th Filmfare Awards along with Karan Johar in 2015. In 2014, he was the presenter for the fourth season of Celebrity Cricket League and he also appeared as a guest on the opening episode of the eighth season of Kaun Banega Crorepati game show hosted by Amitabh Bachchan. He also appeared as a guest on the Anupam Kher Show as well as Aap Ki Adalat hosted by Rajat Sharma. Kapil then made his bollywood debut as the main lead in Kis Kisko Pyaar Karoon, a romantic-comedy directed by Abbas Mustan. The film was appreciated by the masses. After the end of his contract of Comedy Nights with Kapil, he signed a contract with Sony TV and started to host a new show called The Kapil Sharma Show which started airing from 23rd April 2016.Kapil lives in Mumbai and is a bachelor. He has received many awards and recognition and in 2015, Forbes India ranked him 27th on their Celebrity-100 list. He was also ranked third in the most Admired Indian Personality list by Economic Times in 2015. He was awarded the CNN-IBN Indian of the year award in the Entertainment category in 2013. Sharma was nominated for the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and was invited to Rashtrapati Bhavan by President Pranab Mukherjee in September 2015 to acknowledge his contribution fo the same. Kapil suffered a slipped disc in February 2015 while shooting for his debut movie Kis Kisko Pyaar Karoon. He is also known to be an animal lover and he with his cast of Comedy Nights with Kapil appeared in a PETA campaign. He also adopted a retired police dog Zanjeer and campaigned to save tortured elephants across the country. In September 2016, Kapil Sharma tweeted about his issue where he was asked to pay a bribe to BMC. After his tweet, the Chief Minister of Maharashtra Devendra Fadnavis assured him that he will look after the case and will make sure he doesnt face such problems in the future.
