Admittedly, it’s a little difficult to reach, explore and head back in four days. But if you can take a few more days off, the islands are a great place to head to this time of the year. Turkey’s capital city of Istanbul can be another port of call for the Diwali 2017 long weekend. The country’s Bosphorus and Aegean coasts are also open to exploration, though temperatures would be on the higher side. Still, despite the heat, Istanbul and regions like Dalaman, Selimiye and Alaçati are great to explore – and easy on the pocket – during the off-season months.
Let’s head eastwards, towards the global city of Taipei, Taiwan. This place is for those who love the urban jungle, because it doesn’t get wilder than this. Taipei city has some outrageously designed buildings; it isn’t the 2016 World Design Capital for nothing. Off the coast, the city has some incredible cruises to experience. And as for food, you will be spoiled for choice with some of the best East Asian cuisines on offer.

Or you could venture down under to Queenstown in New Zealand if it’s the mountains that call you. The receding snowline means that most skiers would have packed up for the season, but you can still catch plenty of snow capping the mountain tops. Meanwhile, flowers will be full bloom, which you can catch at the beautiful Queenstown Gardens. And for adventure, there’s paragliding, mountain biking, canyon swings, bungee jumping and much more.
