Mehrangarh fort
The humongous Mehrangarh fort is one of the most magnificent monuments of India. It attracts foreign and local tourists all year round. Located 400 ft above Jodhpur, it provides a fantastic view of the blue city. It houses a museum which takes you back to the golden age of the Rathores. It showcases collections of palanquins, furniture, paintings, musical instruments and cannons. Amber fort
The Amber fort is located just 11 km from Jaipur and is renowned across the globe for its fine blend of Hindu and Mughal architecture. Construction of the fort was commenced in 1592 by Raja Man Singh I over the remnants of an earlier fortified structure and since then, the fort has seen several renovations. The intricate carvings, mirrors and precious stone works on the walls and ceilings of the fort are a sight to behold.
Nahargarh fort
The Nahargarh fort offers one of the finest views of the city of Jaipur. It is a great place to catch a spectacular sunset as you check out the vast expanse of the city’s houses. Located on the Aravali hills, the fort was built by Jai Singh for the protection of Amer in 1734 and extended in 1868. It is a great place to spend a pleasant evening in Jaipur.
Kumbalgarh fort
One of the lesser visited forts of Rajasthan, Kumbhalgarh deserves every bit of your attention as it has never been captured. The fort complex has seven massive gates, huge watch towers, and around 360 temples. The hefty walls of the fort are so broad that eight horses can stand side by side on them. Jaigarh fort
Connected to the Amber fort by a tunnel, the Jaigarh fort was built by Sawai Jai Singh II in 1726 to protect the Amer fort. It is famous for the Jaivana canon, which is considered to be the largest canon in the world. Jaigarh’s significance lies in the fact that it is one of the few military structures built in medieval India that is still intact. It is hoe to palaces, granary, canon foundry, temples, and a tower. It also offers an unparalleled panoramic view of Jaipur.
Chittorgarh fort
Built by the Mauryans in 7th century AD, the Chittorgarh fort is known for its humongous size and architectural brilliance. The fort is also known as Water fort as itcomprises 22 water bodies. It is also home to palaces, towers and temples. Spread over 700 acres, the fort was considered as one of India’s strongest forts. The two commemoration towers, Kirti Stambh and Vijay Stambh, are major tourist attractions.
Jaisalmer fort
And then there is the Jaisalmer fort, India’s only living fort. With several families residing in it, the Jaisalmer fort, also known as Sonar killa, is also home to several restaurants and souvenir shops. The hustle-bustle inside the fort with tourists, guides and locals makes it one of the busiest forts of the country.
