Checking one’s diet during this time is prudent. The month is also marked by several pujas and rituals performed by devotees to please the deities. Generally, it is considered good practice to avoid eating non-vegetarian food and consumption of alcohol during auspicious days and months. This makes Gatari Amavasya and important day for people to enjoy so that it gives them enough satisfaction to be able to abstain for the following month.
