Long have we dreamt of Europe-like trains that give us clear views of flanking landscapes as the EMU races past them. Last year, to the delight of many an Indian tourist, it was announced that India will soon get trains with glass top coaches! And then, earlier this year, Vistadome coaches with glass roofs made their debut in the Jammu and Kashmir valley. And now, according to reports, the Mumbai-Goa Jan Shatabdi express may get its own Vistadome glass-roof coach starting as early as tomorrow. As one might expect, the fares to travel in such a wonderful coach will be more than the usual train fare. However, considering the scenic Mumbai-Goa route and the amazing views one will get to witness, the raised fare will be totally worth it! The service is expected to be made available on the Dadar-Madgaon route starting Saturday, September 16. The Dadar-Madgaon Jan Shatabdi Express departs at 5:25 am from Dadar in Mumbai and reaches Madgaon Junction in Goa at 4 pm the same day. This means that you can enjoy the stunning views of the changing colors and moods of the sky throughout the day.
The glass-roof coach is likely to be added as the last coach of the Jan Shatabdi Express. News Agency ANI quoted Ravinder Goyal, DRM Central Railway, as saying – “Received only one coach. We will ply between Dadar-Madgaon first. Based on the response, we will take further decision“. The train is expected to run on Saturdays, Mondays and Thursdays and bookings for the special Vistadome glass-roof coach will also be in place before the journey dates. “We will also block the movement of passengers entering this coach considering the specialized fares to be in practice,” a senior Central Railway official said.
Apart from the glass ceiling that will provide spectacular views of the lovely clouds and weather outside, the Vistadome coach will also include specialized catering services for the passengers. The brand new glass coach has been received by the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus from the Integrated Coach Factory (ICF) in the first week of September. It is sure to provide an exceptional experience to travelers as it includes a multi-tier luggage rack, automatic doors and electronics like small fridge, oven and juicer grinder. The rotatable, pushback chairs add to the amazing and comfortable experience.
We can’t wait to book a seat for ourselves on this amazing coach! Gazing upon the gorgeous Mumbai-Goa route from a glass-roof train followed by a holiday in Goa… what else can one ask for?!?
