Most people are aware that Guru Tegh Bahadur was one of the ten Gurus of Sikhism. However, not many may know that he is also credited with being the very first human rights activist in this part of the world. He stood up for rights of Kashmiri pundits and non-Muslims who were forcefully being converted to Islam. As a result of his resistance, he was publicly beheaded in 1675 on the orders of Mughal Emperor Aurangzeb. To mark this sacrifice, November 24 is celebrated annually as Guru Tegh Bahadur martyrdom day. Guru Tegh Bahadur also dedicated his life to spreading the message of Guru Nanak, the first Guru of Sikhism. Apart from writing 115 poetic hymns that find mention in the holy Guru Granth Sahib, Sri Guru Tegh Bahadur was also a pacifist and propagated peace wherever he traveled. As a result, several places he visited now have gurudwaras or shrines to honour him. On the eve of Shaheedi divas or Sri Guru Tegh Bahadur Martyrdom Day 2017, here are 5 gurudwaras assoicated with Sri Guru Tegh Bahadurji that you must visit.
