There are no fancy interiors or news paper cuttings to testify the awesomeness of dishes available at this nondescript stall, but huge crowds thronging at Joshi’s stall are a proof enough to guarantee that you will taste the best dahi bhalla of your life, here.
Joshi’s age-old stall, selling just two dishes: bhutte ka kiss and dahi bhalla, is located in the Rajwada area of the famed Sarafa or 56 Dukaan area of Indore. A heaven for street food lovers, this crowded khaugulli selling everything from piping hot coconut patties to mava jalebi, is sure to impress you.
Joshi’s art lies not just in the sumptuous, melt-in-your mouth dahi bhalla, but the way in which it is presented to you. Mr Joshi, the proprietor, himself is quite fond of theatrics. In the peak hours of evening, you will notice him showing off his skills as he flings the semi solid dahi into the air, expertly catching it in a container made up of thatched leaves, as you look on, completely mesmerised and awestruck! His other abilities include, taking different types of masala powders (cumin, black pepper, chaat masala, chilli powder and salt) in his fingers and then, drawing separate consecutive circles over your dahi bhalla.
Though this place is known for its dahi bhalla, bhutte ka kiss (shredded corn cooked in masala) is great too. The speciality of the chaat you get here is that it is pretty exclusive to this area. So next time you are in Indore, make sure you pay a visit to Mr Joshi’s stall!
