Driven by the motto of leading a fitter and healthier lifestyle, it is a great opportunity for fun loving travellers, excited locals and experienced runners to test their fitness over a variety of races included in the Ladakh Marathon. 7 km race: Being the shortest race in the marathon event, it is expected to draw good crowds as every fun loving tourist to enthusiastic locals are bound to try their luck this short sprint. The organisers are expecting the 7 km race to be the major highlight of the event.
Half Marathon: Definitely a notch tougher than 7 km race, the half marathon would be eyed by physically fit individuals like athletes and seasoned runners, as it is not easy to run at a stretch at great heights. The half marathon would take you around the interiors of the lovely city of Leh and its outskirts starting from famous Shanti Stupa and lasts for over 21 km.
Marathon: Now coming to the main event, the Ladakh Marathon, which takes you through the profound valleys of Leh and surrounding villages, along the banks of famous Indus river. The marathon which lasts for a whopping 42.1 km is a strict no for ametuers, as it is bound to take a heavy toll on inexperienced runners. Marathon veterans from around the world are expected to take part in this monumental marathon.
The Khardungla Challenge: Spanning over 72 km, it is considered to be the mother of all marathon races, where the fittest souls fight for a space in finish line, testing the limits of their endurance. The race starts at the Khardung village, from where the route goes uphill to Khardung La pass, which is the world’s highest drivable road at a height of 17,618 ft above sea level.
