Travel company Cox & Kings recently released the results of a survey it conducted in Mumbai, Kolkata, New Delhi, Bengaluru and other cities. The survey asked around 1,000 new and expecting moms about their ‘babymoon’ preferences. Babymoon, for those of you who don’t know, refers to a short getaway that expecting parents take as a way to relax before their baby is born. It is the last ever vacation you would take, for a while at least, which is why it is so special. ALSO READ: Top 10 honeymoon destinations in Uttarakhand where love is in the air
So what did the survey find? To begin with, most women agreed that a babymoon is actually a great idea. More than 80 percent of them preferred a beach destination, citing relaxing scenic views and seafronts. Safety and easy access to medical help were important factors too, and a few places topped the list of preferred destinations. Here are some of them.
Beautiful Goa landscape
Well, of course. The beach state of Goa is pretty much the model of rest and relaxation, so why wouldn’t you head there for a babymoon. It also helps that Goa is pretty much accessible throughout the year. Sure, it gets balmy during the summers and crowded during the winters, but Goa doesn’t lose its appeal even then. For a quick and easy getaway that is guaranteed to be relaxing, Goa is the place to go.
The blue city of Jodhpur – Jodhpur – Rajasthan
Next up is Jodhpur, which is a pretty interesting choice for a relaxing getaway. You’d feel nice and cozy in a heritage hotel, with ancient architectural marvels and historic palaces and forts to explore. The crowded bazaars may not be a good idea, but you can always spend your vacation days at a nice palace. The massive state of Maharashtra has plenty of spots to head to for a quick and leisurely babymoon. Its getaway destinations are especially appealing for those who live in the big cities, like Mumbai, Pune and Nagpur. Maharashtra has beautiful stretches of beaches right from Kihim to Shiroda, with delicious Konkani food on offer. And there are the Sahyadri mountains, where you can head to for a few days in a hill station. Mahabaleshwar, Amboli and Bhandardara are a few names that come to mind.
Another destination that topped the list of babymoon destinations is, not surprisingly, Kerala. God’s Own Country is a great place to just wind down for a while before your lives change forever. You can head to Munnar or Wayanad to slow down and smell the tea and spices, or spend some days in a cozy little houseboat floating through the backwaters of Alleppey. Just take a leisurely walk in the historic lanes of Fort Kochi, or spend a few evenings in Kerala’s famed beaches. The Cox & Kings study also found that most women want to go on a babymoon in the second trimester. So for all the soon-to-be dads, you now know when to plan the one-week getaway with your wife and where to head to. Just make sure not to head with the whole family; more than 70 percent women want to go only with their husbands.
