While Bangalore is the most accessible place in Karnataka, Hampi gives it a tough fight when it comes to popularity among tourists. A favourite among backpackers from all over the globe, Hampi is known for its historic ruins of the Vijayanagara Empire. Several tourists like to include Hampi in their must-visit list of places to visit in India along with other major attractions like Goa, Gokarna, Jaipur and Kerala. So far, the only accessibility to Hampi from Bangalore was via rail and road and the nearest airport to Hampi was at Hubli at a 4-hour drive. But now, to the delight of many a traveler, the economy carrier Trujet has started direct flights from Bangalore to Hampi. ALSO SEE 15 breathtaking photos of Hampi and Badami in Karnataka!
The new direct flights are a result of the Ude Desh ka Aam Nagrik (UDAN) scheme to offer subsidized regional connectivity. Under the UDAN scheme, flight fares are capped at Rs 2500 for one hour of flight. TruJet’s direct flights will take one hour to get from Bangalore’s Kempegowda International Airport and the Jindal Vijaynagar Airport in Vidyanagar, from where it is a 1-hour drive to Hampi. As of now, fares for these direct flights start at Rs 999. Bangalore to Hampi is not the only route being connected by TruJet. The carrier is also offering direct flights from Hyderabad starting at Rs 999 although the journey from Hyderabad to Vidyanagar takes a bit longer (75 minutes).
So, if you have not visited Hampi yet, there is nothing holding you back any longer. Book a ticket to one of these inexpensive direct flights to witness the majestic 14th century ruins of Hampi.
