New Year resolutions are meant to be broken is the popular opinion but when they are travel resolutions, most of us strive hard to stick to them. After all, they are the best ones and make us the happiest probably. Having a travel goal simply means you have a basic idea of where you want to go in the coming year and helps you plan better in selecting the destination and how to go about it. Sakshita Khosla, a food writer, wants to save up enough money and wants to explore a new country in 2017. She hasn’t been abroad yet and wants the New Year to be the one where she actually does this with her own money. Bhutan is one destination on her wish list that she wishes to tick off hopefully in 2017.
Anoop Menon who is an auto-journalist plans to go on a road trip every month covering at least 200 km on his bike. He resides in Navi Mumbai and there are several weekend getaways that can be covered in this distance, one way. Road trips are usually fun and they can be done easily with friends or solo. Shreya Suresh Kumar, a lifestyle writer, recently got hitched but she wants to break stereotypes and go on at least one solo trip in 2017. She does not believe that marriage changes everything and that couples have to travel together on every trip. She wants to explore the countries of Eastern Europe on her solo trip in 2017.
Chethana Prakasan, a health writer, wants to take shorter but more trips in 2017 as she wants to explore nearby places that are usually offbeat but beautiful nevertheless. Her tickets for the first couple of months are already booked and she plans to keep this trend going in the rest of the year as well.
Sambit Satpathy, assistant editor of a tech portal, wishes to explore a part of India he hasn’t yet seen. Northeast is on his mind and he also wants to go on a luxurious retreat abroad to a secluded island. And, he also wants to keep his tradition alive of going to Goa at least once a year. Priya Prakasan, a beauty writer, wants to travel more generally and specially wants to go on historical tours in the country. She is keen to explore newer places and has already made a few plans for the year.
Abhishek Mande-Bhot, editor of the travel and lifestyle sections, has an ambitious resolution of traveling to a new place every month. And to ensure this happens, he has already booked tickets for the first few months. We hope he can keep this going for all the 12 months of 2017.
