Come January 31 and you will be able to witness one of the rarest celestial phenomena. After a period of 150 years, the super moon, blue moon and lunar eclipse will all occur on the same day on January 31, 2018. The last time this happened was on March 31, 1866. While you will able to witness this amazing spectacle with the naked eye, there’s nothing better than experiencing it at a planetarium. And with that in mind, Kerala is leaving no stone unturned in making this an experience of a lifetime for astronomy enthusiasts. ALSO SEE Best Offbeat Places near Mumbai to Visit in 2018

Several arrangements are being made here, including setting up of telescopes and organization of awareness sessions. Not just at KSSTM, awareness sessions are being arranged in various parts of Kerala by the Breakthrough Science Society and other such organizations. According to a Times of India report, KSSTM director Arul Jerald Prakash said, “It is a rare three-in one moon with supermoon, blue moon and lunar eclipse on this Jan 31 after a gap of 150 years. Before this, earlier such event occurred on March 31, 1866. Though observers can have a glimpse of the rare celestial phenomenon with the naked eye in the evening on Jan 31, we are also making arrangements for the interested to observe the event through telescopes. It can be viewed only partially through telescope, yet it will be ready. Before that an awareness class will be held with astrophysicist from 4 pm onwards, then after a tea break, the sky observation will begin and the visitors can enjoy the moon after sunset.”

With regard to the time, the moon will pass through the partial shadow at 4.21 pm and eventually into total lunar eclipse by 6.21 pm. The total lunar eclipse would end at 7.37 pm transform into partial lunar eclipse at 8.41 pm when the moon will slowly come out of the darkness.
