Summer is in full swing, and a lot of people might be looking to take a break from their school, college or work to escape the heat. While many would be looking towards the mountains of the north for a respite, there is one destination that remains the coolest place in India throughout the year: Goa. Now, Goa may be seeing the usual summer temperatures of around 24-37°C, but it still makes for a cool summer destination. Here are 5 reasons why Goa is the coolest place in India throughout the year.

Beaches

Goa Beach

Goa has a cornucopia of beaches, with popular, even world-famous, ones like Vagator, Calangute, Baga and Candolim. Then there are the more off-beat beaches, like Querim, Bambolim, Caranzalem and Cabo De Rama. Goa has every kind of beach, from secluded beaches to thriving ones with shacks and water sports, and from white sandy stretches to rocky ones off the beaten path.

Goan cuisine has its own identity, with the basics being rice, curry, fish and feni. Combine them all in a mix of Konkani, Portuguese, Catholic and Muslim influences, and that is Goa’s food in a coconut shell. But there is a lot more to Goan cuisine that you can explore, with a variety of tastes and flavours on offer. Seafood is the obvious specialty, but you can also find other kinds of non-vegetarian and vegetarian dishes to satisfy your taste buds.

You can kick back and enjoy the sunset with some fresh fish and feni, but Goa shows its other side once the sun dips below the horizon. Its nightlife is wild and fun, with great music and lots of drinks that keep coming until the wee hours of morning. Top that with the state’s delicious food, and you have some of the most exciting and memorable nightlife options in India. Apart from the crazy neon-infused parties, Goa also offers its share of quiet beachside barbeque and energetic casino nights. ALSO READ: Goa other than beaches: 19 Unique things to do in Goa

What makes all of the above elements tick is Goa’s culture. With a heavy influence of Portuguese and Catholic culture, Goa has a cultural vividness that can be seen through its folk music, cuisine and dances. The idea of the daily siesta, when Goa comes to a halt every afternoon to take a break, perfectly encapsulates the laid-back atmosphere that permeates the state. Goan music itself is a cool blend of techno, jazz and western classic. ALSO READ: Top 12 nightclubs of Goa! Have you been to them all?
