1. Plan much in advance
Look at the holiday calendar at the beginning of the year and plan how many vacations you want to take and where you’d like to go. Once you have this set, you can work towards planning and saving up for your trips. You’ll have an estimate of how much money you’ll need for the trip and knowing beforehand will help you save up. One trick could also be to just book your flight tickets months in advance. This way, you’ll think twice before splurging on anything because you know you have a trip coming up and you’ll need money saved up for it.

2. Be a smart saver
You may often think about saving up but don’t end up doing so and before you know it, all your money is over. Be smart and set up a savings account where every month a part of your salary gets deducted. You could open a recurring deposit where a fixed sum of money gets cut every month from your account for a set period of time. This will definitely help you save up more and spend less on things you probably don’t need.

3. Use your hobbies to make extra money
You may be in a full-time job that leaves you with hardly any time to pursue anything else. But if you chalk out a few hours of your time in a week, you can make more money that can directly go in your travel piggy bank. Think of your hobbies or anything you are good at and look at ways to make money out of it. Love photography? Sell your photos as a freelance photographer. Good at DIY? Sell your crafty bests online. Love sports? Coach the kids in your locality for a nominal amount. These will give you an extra few thousands that will come in handy on your trip.

4. Rent out your couch to other travelers
Now this may be more popular abroad where couch surfing and AirBnB stays are more common. But the trend is slowly catching up in India too and you can make full use of it. There are several travelers all over the world who travel on a shoestring budget or do not want to spend too much on accommodation. They are always on the lookout for a hometstay, couch surfers and people who’d let them stay in their house for a nominal amount. This also helps them explore more about the place’s culture and its people. You could rent out one of your rooms or just your couch to them. And who knows, you’ll have a couch to sleep on when you visit them!
