Smart phones have overtaken computers as the most popular way to access the internet in China. However, fast growing mobile internet has become a new channel to circulate pornographic information.

China to clean up porn on phone apps

Beijing, July 23 : China has launched a campaign to clamp down on pornography circulated on smart phone applications. The ministry of industry and information technology will step up supervision over telecommunication service providers, application creators and online app stores in the course of the campaign that was launched Tuesday, Xinhua reported.

It will set up a system that can verify the identity of app creators as well as monitor and dispose of pornographic information. The ministry will also encourage the reporting of porn-related applications, create a blacklist of such apps and ban them from accessing the internet.
