Laxmi Puja is celebrated on the 30th October 2016  Sunday and is yet another Hindu prayer which is performed on the third day of Diwali. Laxmi. Lakshmi Puja is a combination of five deities which includes Lord Ganesha, Mahakali, Mahalakshmi, Mahasaraswati and Lord Kuber. This occasion is quite important and entirely devoted in worshiping Goddess Laxmi.  People start decorating their homes well in advance and light diyas and pray for wealth, prosperity and happiness of their loved ones. This day is the main event of Diwali and it’s extremely important to keep the house clean and tidy. As it is said that, Goddess visits and likes cleanliness.

The occasion falls on the day of Amavasya which is normally termed as inauspicious day, but here it is regarded as the most auspicious one. Goddess Lakshmi is regarded to be the most beautiful and adorable female with golden complexion. Goddess Lakshmi is either sitting or standing on a lotus and holding lotus flower in her hand. According to the mythological myth, Goddess Laxmi is god of wealth and beauty. She is also the wife of Lord Vishnu and bhakts offer gifts and grants for her auspicious blessings. On this day devotees get up early and take auspicious bath and worship Lord Vishnu. Further in the afternoon, an old traditional of praying for the departed souls and offering fresh and veg food to Brahmans is a must. In the evening, Goddess Lakshmi, Lord Vishnu and Lord Kuber are worshipped. Idol of Goddess Lakshmi must be installed either on lotus or a swastika drawn with consecrated rice. Next to her idol, Lord Kuber idol is placed along with a pot. Further these idols are being offered with Naivedya which consist of cow’s milk, sugar, cardamom and cloves. Goddess is bestowed with four hands which stand for dharma, kama, artha and moksha. If we carefully notice her idol, it shows golden coins flowing from her hands which mean people worshipping her gain wealth and prosperity in life. She is dressed in red color saree with golden embroidery. There are always two elephants seen next to goddess and spraying water from their trunk. This shows their efforts with full purity, wisdom which finally leads to spiritual happiness.

At the very beginning, one must clean the house and draw rangoli on the doorstep and welcome Goddess Lakshmi.
