For the second game in a row the KXIP team managed to chase a daunting target and for the second game in a row Glen Maxwell and David Miller played well up to their hype and provided the Sharjah crowd and the KXIP fans with plenty to cheer about.
The chase for the KXIP started rather slow and slightly on the disastrous side. They lost the wickets of Virendra Sehwag and Wriddhiman Saha by the third over for the score of 10. It was at this point that the hero of the Previous match Glenn Maxwell walked in to the middle and played another memorable innings for his Franchise.
Maxwell scored 89 runs of just 45 deliveries, with the help of 8 boundaries and 6 sixes. He brought down the required run rate that was 12 at the end of the 10th over to 10 by the end of the 13th over. Although he will be disappointed at missing out on a hundred for the second game in a row, he very well lived up to his hype and proved that the decision of including him in the team was a great one by the KXIP.
Once Maxwell was dismissed, David miller walked in, and just like the last match he took charge after Maxwell’s departure. He struck 6 mighty sixes in an innings that just lasted for 19 deliveries and also completed his 50 during that period. Such was the destructiveness of his innings that KXIP, who needed 37 of 3 overs, won with 8 deliveries to spare.
The Bowling from the Rajasthan royals was good to start with as they gave away only 69 run in the first half of the innings. The KXIP batsman needed to score 122 of the last 10 overs and that’s when it went all wrong. Dhawal Kulkarni in particular was very disappointing during the back end of the innings as the 18th over bowled by him probed to be the turning point of the match.
Earlier, RR had managed to put up a huge total on board thanks mainly to Quick half centuries from Shane Watson and Sanju Samson. The RR team looked like posting a target well in excess of 200, but The KXIP bowlers managed to pull things back a bit after the dismissals of Watson and Samson around the 16th over.
Result: Kings eleven Punjab beat Rajasthan Royals by 7 wickets
Man of the Match: Glenn Maxwell.
