Navratri festival is just few days away! On this auspicious festival, devotees worship Goddess Durga. The word ‘Navratri’ mans ‘nine nights’ in Sanskrit, wherein ‘nava’ means nine and ‘ratri’ means nights. Navratri festival starts from October 1st, 2016 and is celebrated till October 11th, 2016. Navratri is celebrated for nine days and nince nights. The tenth day is referred as Vijayadashami or Dussehra and after 20 days of this festival Diwali is celebrated. Navratri festival is celebrated all around the corner with lot of zeal and enthusiasm. The festival symbolizes the victory of good over bad. It is believed that devotees who worship Goddess and even observe rigorous fast during those nine days is blessed with good health, prosperity. Navratri is all about playing Garba Raas, Dandiya and eating yummy delicacies. before Navratri, people clean their houses and decorate it. Devotees worship Goddess Durga, Goddess Saraswati and Goddess Lakmi. Navratri Puja starts with Shailputri Maa and Goddess of Navadurga. The festival ends on a good note with Siddhidatri Mata’s puja. According to some popular legends, devotees believe that Lord Shiva granted permission to his wife Goddess Durga for seeing her mother for just nine days. The first day of Navratri festival is ‘Ghatasthapana’ which is the main ritual. This day marks the beginning of Navratri as it symbolizes the commencement of the occasion for nine days.  Devotees place picture of Goddess in to the kalash (pot).  The pot must be covered with cow dung and seeds must be sown in the dung. Further the seeds sprout and are then distributed as Prasad on the Vijayadashami day.

People begin the festival with Ghatasthapana, wherein people perform Ghatasthapana with proper rules and rituals. Ghatasthanana is one of the most important tradition performed during Navratri as it symbolizes the commencement of the occasion for nine days.
