Valentine's Day 2015: Jab miya biwi raazi, toh kiya nahin kuch Qazi!

Spoilsport Hindu Mahasabha refuses to marry off couples on Valentine’s Day

Unless you’ve been living under a rock, you must have heard off the Hindu Mahasabha’s solemn promise to marry off any couple who were caught celebrating Valentine’s Day. Hindu Mahasabha’s national president Chandra Prakash Kaushik had said: ‘India is a country where all 365 days are days for love, why then must couples observe only February 14 as Valentine’s Day?’ They had also promised to marry off people saying the three magic words to each other on social media sites, but when D-Day, sorry, V-Day arrived, they refused to walk the talk.

It all started when taking the Mahasabha’s statement to heart, Vidhyalakshmi Kumari (an anonymous Facebook user) put together a an event she called the Shuddh Desi Romance which encompassed a peaceful march to the Hindu Mahasabha headquarters in Delhi. At the headquarters, they were met, not by priests who would marry them, but men and women in khaki who took them to the Parliament Street Police Station! Seriously, this was the first time the moral police, needed to be protected by the real police!

Describing the march, Vidhyalakshmi’s FB post said: ‘The six hour Wedding was epic! We received a welcome like never before – not only did the Mahasabha send out special representatives who loved us to death (the CM included), but even got the Indian State’s most handsome men and women, all decked up in gorgeous khaki outfits, to lead us, holding us, hugging us, embracing us, tightly, into a beautiful white Haveli in Parliament street in four gorgeous blue SUVs. Our rides were marked by songs of glee and passion and endless chitter-chatter. Our escorts were so generous with their compliments, in fact some couldn’t take their eyes of us and some others seemed spellbound.’

The revellers had actually turned up prepared for event with everything required to carry out a wedding, but the event but the right-wingers refused to play ball. According to a piece in feminisminindia.com: ‘But when interested partners arrived outside the Mahasabha’s office dressed in wedding gear and fully equipped with Mehendi cones, musical instruments, wedding props and of course band baaja, they were left high and dry.

The Mahasabha refused to come out except one Swami Omji who ordered around the police and threatened to kill Arvind Kejriwal. The Mahasabha hid behind the Delhi Police who in turn eloped with three buses full of protesters. The protesters were detained under Section 65 for about five hours. However, inside the Parliament Street police station too the wedding ceremonies, right from Mehendi to Sangeet and then the actual exchange of Varmalaswent on in full energy.’

The revellers were arrested at 12 pm and let go from the police station at 5:30 pm.

My Two Cents

Come on boys, if you promise something, stick to your word or you will just be mocked like Dear Leader who likes suits. Just don’t go around saying things, that’s really bad for your image and makes you look like pansies. On the other hand, it’s quite heartening to see that we now live in a country where idiots can’t get away with forcing their narrow morality down our throats. I also find it ironic that the police felt the need to arrest these peaceful protestors while the man directing them was the same guy who threatened to kill Kejriwal and still remains at large. Shouldn’t the law of the land apply equally to everyone? Watch his video below, where he threatens to kill Kejriwal.
