When Riku was diagnosed with medulloblastoma in 2018, his parents, Noriko and Jun, turned to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital® for his care. Riku’s treatment includes proton therapy and chemotherapy.
“We are so blessed to be here,” his mom, Noriko, said. “St. Jude provided us with housing and with doctors and nurses who really care for our son.”
Riku’s family moved from Japan to California in 2017. Being so far from their families, they’re grateful for the friends they’ve made at St. Jude. “It’s given us a lot of strength,” Noriko said. “Talking to other families, seeing their children, it helps us. And I think it helps Riku feel normal, too.” Riku, who likes to paint and colour, is a kind, loving boy. “Even though Riku is very small, he’s very strong,” said Jun. “We are grateful that at St. Jude, we can focus on our son.”
