Kissing. Conning. Smooth-talking.
The three actions above are the holy trinity of an Emraan Hashmi movie, and he’s doing all three in his upcoming film “Raja Natwarlal.” In this latest production directed by Siddharth Roy Kapur and Ronnie Screwvala, (of the Jannat films), crime meets comedy as Emraan plays Raja, an ambitious crook who teams up with fellow scam artist Gulati (Paresh Rawal) to swindle business bigwig Vardhan (Kay Kay Menon) through a cricket-themed setup.
The trailer assures us that ” Raja Natwarlal” will boast all the usual suspects of a typical Hashmi movie, from the steely glares and gun-filled action sequences to the punchy dialogue-baazi and underworld romance. And since we are talking about Bollywood’s most loved (or loathed) serial screen kisser here, we get a teaser of a liplock, too—this time, he’s smooching Pakistani actress Humaima Malik, who plays his bar dancer girlfriend in her Bollywood debut.
While the plotline doesn’t seem to offer much by way of originality (we can already guess how this story ends), the combination of Rawal and Hashmi is intriguing enough to spark interest in the film. Meanwhile, with Kunal Deshmukh (who previously directed Hashmi in the Jannat films) at the helm, Hashmi is back in trusted hands. It looks like the actor is firmly in his comfort zone here, but can he keep things interesting for the rest of us? Find out when “Raja Natwarlal” releases in theaters on August 29.
