With all the success Sean has garnered through the years, it is no wonder he has won the heart of American R&B singer and model Thara Prashad. She is half Indo-Guyanese, quarter Irish and quarter African-American, and was born and raised in New Jersey.
Prashad was signed to the Desert Storm record label and is one of the first female South Asian artists to play on hit radio station Hot 97. She now works alongside Sean as his “wifeager” and also manages a blog called, “Get Toned with Thara.”
Sean and Prashad initially met at the Bollywood Awards in 2005, however, both admit it was not love at first sight. Prashad said that they took one photo, but she was turned off by his “too cool” attitude and “baggy pants.”
A year later, they met again at the South Asian Student Alliance Awards in Miami where they “hit it off.”
They kept their relationship a secret in the beginning, because of Sean’s career. The new couple also lived in two different countries and pursued a long distance relationship, him in the U.K. signed to Virgin Records and Prashad living in the U.S. Sean eventually moved to the U.S. in 2008 after he signed with Cash Money Records.
After their courtship, a religious engagement ceremony was booked in England before the actual proposal. Prashad knew the proposal had to come some time before the ceremony, but was not sure when. Sean planned a fake dinner event and tricked Thara with a sock in his pocket, instead of a ring. And he actually tricked Prashad twice with a sock in his pocket before the grand proposal.
Sean eventually popped the question, for real this time, in Miami where the couple’s romance first began.
The proposal started with a fake MTV interview, which Sean pre-recorded and raved about how in love he is with Prashad, and then he got down on one knee and proposed— finally!
Thara planned their big Indian wedding, lasting one week, which took place in New Jersey in August of 2009.
Ayva Loveen Kaur Jhooti, Sean and Prashad’s daughter was born on December 13, 2013. After the birth of their daughter they continue to work together, but still feel it’s necessary to take time to have dates separate from work where they can reconnect.
It is obvious with a love as inspiring as theirs, Sean and Prashad are truly a power couple!
