This rumor is so true! The suave and sophisticated Ronit Roy is headed to Hollywood! This television icon—who’s been called the Amitabh Bachchan of television—is another name that should be added to the list of Bollywood stars headed across international waters. Roy will be starring in Rohit Batra’s Indo-Hollywood venture, “The Field.”
“The Field,” has an international cast of Indian, British and Amerian actors including Neeraj Kabi and Radhika Apte. Roy announced that he will essay the role of the elder brother in a family of criminals, which will hit the floor this April. Speaking about the film, Roy explains that the story is a period drama about a mafia family.
“I begin shooting in April. It is a period film portraying old Delhi, but it has a very international flavor, ” Roy told Times of India. “I accepted the role because it’s a very interesting character that is part of a great story. Rohit (director) has been living with the script for quite a few years. His conviction in the script has also helped me make a decision to do it.”
This wouldn’t be Roy’s first international project, he was previously in Deepa Mehta’s “Midnight’s Children.” He was also offered a role in the television show “Homeland,” and the film “Zero Dark Thirty.” Unfortunately, he was unable to take on the projects due to date clashes.
“I regret not taking up both,” Roy told Deccan Chronicle. “In fact, Sehar, who cast me in ‘The Field,’ had cast me for ‘Homeland’ too but I couldn’t do it because of bad timing. I was shooting for ‘Guddu Rangeela’ in Wai and ‘Adalat’ was on the air with no episode bank. As for ‘Zero Dark Thirty,’ Dharma had my dates for ‘Student Of The Year,’ which they didn’t use finally. So I was left high and dry, sitting at home, doing nothing.”
“Having said that,” the famed television actor said, “When I watched ‘Zero Dark Thirty’ and saw the actor in it, I kind of thought that maybe it’s for the best that I didn’t do it. In retrospect, I was not ready and wouldn’t have been able to justify that role as well as he did.”
Speaking about his co-star Radhika Apte, Roy told Times of India that he was impressed with the actress’ previous work. “This is my first film with Radhika,” Roy said. “I’ve never worked with her, but I’ve seen her work. She’s immensely talented, and I feel she will give a new dimension to her part.”
There’s also rumors that Roy will be returning to television to bring to life the witty Sherlock Holmes-esque lawyer, K.D. Pathak, in another season of “Adaalat” on Sony TV. Roy did confirm the rumors that they are attempting to bring back the show a few months ago with a tweet.
The multi-talented actor was last seen in films like “Guddu Rangeela,” “2 States,” and “Student of the Year.” Recently, he also starred in the hit show “Itna Karo Na Mujhe Pyaar” alongside the lovely Pallavi Kulkarni. Along with “The Field,”
Roy is also working on projects like “Saat Kadam” and “Pashmina”—both of which are set to release in 2016. Now, with the possible return of “Adaalat,” 2016 looks like a good year for Ronit Roy! We can’t wait to see what type of mysteries K.D. will use his crazy antics to solve next!
