Asian Games 2018 Day 8: Fouaad Mirza clinched India’s 6th silver at the Asian Games 2018 campaign as India won its 30th medal. 26-year-old Mirza won the Individual Equestrian Individual event, breaking a 36-year-old record. India last won an Asian Games medal in the event in 1982.

This was also India’s first medal on Day 8. India also clinched another Equestrian medal in the Eventing team final as Japan bagged the gold and Thailand finished with bronze. The Indian team comprised of Rakesh Kumar, Ashish Malik, Jitendra Singh and Fouaad Mirza are in the fray for a Gold in the team final.

So what is the event?

The horses (along with the riders) are timed from a start and a finish line, and a final score is obtained by combining the number of jumping faults (4 points for every jump knocked down), number of refusals (a refusal is when the horse refuses to jump), and time faults (if the rider takes more time than the stipulated limit). Two refusals in the event automatically lead to elimination!

Meanwhile, Day 8 holds great interest for Indian fans as Saina Nehwal and PV Sindhu would be playing their quarterfinals matches respectively and India would be praying nothing short of one gold. It would be better if India wins gold and silver.

Apart from that, Hima Das will be in action in the evening in the 400 metres track and field finals.
