Asian Games 2018: Day 8 was a day to remember especially because of the Indian athletes’ historic show in the track and field events. Hima Das, Mohammed Anas and Dutee Chand’s silver made it a great day for India. But, Govindan Lakshmanan was stripped of his bronze medal in the 10,000 metres race after it was seen that he had stepped off-the-tracks. He had become the first ever Indian to win at the event, but his triumph was short-lived.

Yet, he managed to win the hearts of fans with his run. The 28-year-old had recorded a timing of 29:44.91 but his effort was turned down to be ineligible as he was disqualified under the IAAF 163.3b (lane infringement) law.

Here is how Twitter showed support for the runner.

It was Qatar’s Hassan Chani who clinched the gold with a timing of 28:35.54, while his compatriot Abraham Cheroben finished in second place clocking 29:00.29. Govindan Lakshmanan’s bronze medal went to Changhong Zhao of China, who had a time of 30:07.49.
