Earlier, twenty-seven-year-old shooter Rahi Sarnobat came out with a brilliant performance as she won the gold medal in the 25m pistol competition after two rounds of shoot-off at the 18th Asian Games in Indonesia. Sarnobat became the first Indian woman to win an individual gold medal in shooting at Asian Games.
Sarnobat shot an Asian Games record score of 34 and although Thailand’s Naphaswan Yangpaiboon provided a tough challenge to the 27-year-old Indian shooter, she was able to clinch the title after two rounds of shoot-off. South Korean Minjung Kim won the bronze medal with a score of 29.
Sarnobat earlier had won bronze in the 2014 Asian Games in Incheon. She has won three medals till date in Commonwealth Games—gold (2010, 2014) and silver (2010).
Sarnobat’s gold was the fourth one for India at the ongoing edition of the Asian Games.
However, title favourite and Commonwealth Games gold medallist Manu Bhaker could not make it to the podium and finished at the sixth spot.
This is India’s second shooting gold medal at these Asian Games after Sachin Chaudhary won gold in the 10m air pistol event on Tuesday. Abhishek Verma also bagged a bronze medal in the same event.
