Asian Games 2018: Indian Asiad team coach Bahadur Singh strongly criticized West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Tuesday in Delhi for offering Gold medalist Swapna Barman only a meagre Rs 10 lakhs while other states govt giving in crore.

Talking to Zee news Bahadur Singh clearly said, “I would like to request her that it’s not about helping only one athlete, it’s about giving a message to all children of Bengal and their family that sports pave the way for earning money.”

West Bengal govt has announced Rs 10 lakhs for golden girl Sapna immediately after her gold win in heptathlon event and also promised a govt job. Though Sapna remained always tight-lipped on the issue, her team coach reacted firmly. As per Singh, “All other states are giving 2 or 3 crores. So I would like to request Mamata Banerjee, yeh lakh wala khel chodna padega. Crore me dena padega.”

Bahadur Singh claimed to have once advised former Chief Minister of Haryana Bhupinder Singh Hooda to change its sports policy and he needed to his advice. Haryana is now reaping the dividend of turning its sports policy to money oriented. Singh said, “Money motivates people. 2 or 3 lakhs don’t have any value nowadays. Haryana has changed its sports policy. Bengal also should do it. They have ample talents. So Mamata Banerjee should rethink her decision.”
