Once launched, the new Hero XPulse motorcycle will be an affordable alternative to Royal Enfield’s Himalayan in the domestic market.

Hero MotoCorp, country’s leading two-wheeler giant showcased the XPulse 200 Concept earlier this month at the Auto Expo 2018. As a reminder, the motorcycle made its global debut at EICMA last year. Moreover, the motorcycle is claimed to be replacement for the Hero Impulse which is already discontinued in the market. This Royal Enfield Himalayan challenger is expected to be powered by the same 200cc single cylinder engine seen on the Xtreme 200R naked sports motorcycle. As far as the launch date is concerned, the company seems to be tight lipped regarding the same with no exact date yet. However, it is rumoured that the XPulse motorcycle will hit the domestic market by mid of this year. The motorcycle will be built on the diamond frame chassis which also underpins the Xtreme 200R. The motorcycle will come loaded with Turn-by-Turn Navigation, Full-LED Headlamps, Luggage rack, ABS for on/off road. It will also sport LED fog lamps, semi-digital instrumentation and LED tail lamps. Main attributes of the upcoming motorcycle are high ground clearance, Metzeler off-roading tyres, bigger windscreen, raised front fender and a long-travel conventional fork, enduro-bike-styled handlebar, hand guards, underbelly bash plate, upswept exhaust and much more. For suspension, the motorcycle will be fitted with telescopic forks upfront and monoshock setup with 10-step adjustable gas charged suspension at the rear. Powering the XPulse motorcycle will be the same 200cc, 4-stroke, single-cylinder air-cooled unit. However, the engine will be tweaked for better performance and off-roading experience. It is also reported that Hero has also changed the gearing as well as the chain sprocket size of the engine. The motor equipped on the Xtreme 200R is capable of producing 18.4 bhp @ 8000 rpm against the peak torque of 17.1Nm @ 6500 rpm. The engine will be mated to a 5-speed gearbox. For braking, the upcoming Hero XPulse 200 motorcycle will employ disc brakes at both the ends along with single channel ABS. As far as the pricing is concerned, the motorcycle is expected to be priced in the range of INR 1 lakh to INR 1.2 lakh (ex-showroom). As the demand in the entry level adventure tourer segment is growing, the motorcycle will pose a threat to RE Himalayan, KTM 390 Adventure, BMW G310 GS and others.
