Bengaluru Heatwave: City Records 3rd-Highest Temperature In April In 15 Years; Will Rain Grace City?

Bengaluru Heatwave: Residents of Bengaluru continue to reel under intense heat as the city breaks new records every day. Recently, the Silicon City of India recorded its maximum temperature of 37.2 degrees Celsius, the highest since 2016. On Saturday, Bengaluru recorded 37.6 degrees Celsius, which, according to the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD), was the third-highest maximum temperature in the last 15 years in April. Not only that, but the temperature was also the highest in the last eight years, as reported by The Hindu.

A. Prasad, scientist, IMD, Bengaluru said, “Today (April 6) the city recorded 37.6 degrees Celsius. It is the third highest in the last 15 years and the highest in the last eight years.”

Bengaluru Heatwave: Will Rain Grace City Soon?

According to the weather forecast the city is expected to receive rain on April 10 and 11. However, it is uncertain whether showers bring respite from scorching heat from, but it will hopefully provide a small break from the rising temperatures with cloudy skies.

Bengaluru Heatwave: Highest Temperature

The city recorded the highest-ever temperature in April was 39.2 degrees Celsius in 2016. Notably, the normal temperature for the city in April is 34.1 degrees Celsius, but On March 5 this year the temperature soared to 38 degrees Celsius. The Kempegowda International Airport’s (KIA) weather station witnessed the highest mercury level of 38.3 degrees Celsius.

Bengaluru Heatwave: Is There Any Heatwave Alert?

As per the Meteorological Department’s (IMD), the city isn’t currently under a heatwave alert. The IMD only issues such an alert when the temperature is predicted to cross a scorching 40 degrees Celsius. In contrast, the weather forecast for Bangalore hints at a much cooler range of 36 degrees or less in the forthcoming days. So, despite a handful of regions in Karnataka being on heatwave watch, Bangalore conveniently evades this risk for now.

Bengaluru Heatwave: Karnataka Govt Issued Heatwave Advisory

The Karnataka State Disaster Management Authority (KSDMA) has recently issued an advisory, urging people to stay indoors during the hottest time of the day, which starts at 12 pm and ends at 3 pm. The state govt requested people to drink plenty of water and avoid beverages like alcohol, tea, coffee, and fizzy drinks that can cause dehydration. People of the state are advised to wear light-coloured, cotton clothes and use sunglasses, umbrellas, or hats when going outside. If feeling dizzy or unwell, the state govt advised people to seek medical attention.
