Bihar Lok Sabha Election 2024: Jhanjharpur Lok Sabha constituency is one of the 40 Lok Sabha constituencies in Bihar. The Jhanjharpur Lok Sabha seat has been a traditional bastion of the Janata Dal (United) and its erstwhile predecessor the Janata Dal, since the constituency was carved out ahead of the 1977 general elections.
Barring a defeat at the hands of the BJP in the 2014 polls, the Jhanjharpur seat has firmly been in the backpocket of regional power players like Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) and the JD(U), especially the latter, who have won it three times out of the past four elections.
In the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, Nitish Kumar’s JD(U) was aligned with the BJP-led NDA, and its candidate, Rampreet Mandal, retained the seat for the ruling alliance when he defeated his nearest rival candidate, Gulab Yadav of the RJD, by a chunky margin of 3,22,951 votes.
Amidst a 57.24 percent voter turnout, Mandal secured 6,02,391 votes, while Yadav could only manage 2,79,440 votes.
Elections for the Jhanjharpur Lok Sabha constituency will be held on May 7, 2024– Phase 3 of Lok Sabha polls– while votes will be counted on June 4 and results declared on the same day.

Date of polling: May 7, 2024
Date of counting/results: June 4, 2024
Akin to the 2019 polls, the JD(U) is once again a part of the ruling BJP-led NDA after party supremo and Chief Minister Nitish Kumar’s latest volte-face. The regional heavyweight will be eyeing to retain the Jhanjharpur constituency in the Bihar Lok Sabha Election 2024.
Meanwhile, JDU’s former Mahagathbandhan ally, Lalu Prasad’s RJD, will be eyeing to recapture the Jhanjharpur seat for the opposition INDIA bloc.
Elections for the 40 Lok Sabha seats in Bihar will be held in all seven phases of the Lok Sabha Elections 2024 from April 19 to June 1, 2024. Votes will be counted on June 4 and results declared on the same day, the Election Commission has announced.
