“I have been battling cancer for the last 6 months. Now I feel that the time has come to tell people. I will not be able to do anything in the Lok Sabha elections. I have told everything to Prime Minister (Narendra Modi). Always grateful and always dedicated to the country, Bihar and the (Bharatiya Janata Party) party,” Sushil Modi wrote in a post on X in Hindi.
However, Modi, 72, did not elaborate on what type of cancer he is suffering from.

Sushil Modi is prominent face of the BJP in Bihar and eyebrows were raised amongst the political circles in the state after his name did not feature in the party’s candidates list for the Rajya Sabha elections earlier this year.
Reports citing BJP sources said the veteran leader might be made the governor of a state in the future for his services to the party.
“The only rehabilitation I see for him now is being made governor in the future,” The Print quoted a BJP leader as saying in its report.
Sushil Kumar Modi has served as the Deputy Chief Minister of Bihar from 2017 to 2020, as well as the Finance Minister of the state from 2005 to 2013.
Notably, Sushil Modi, who wields significant influence in his native Bihar, is part of the BJP’s 27-member Election Manifesto Committee, which is headed by defence minister Rajnath Singh. Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman and Union Minister Piyush Goyal will be convenor and co-convenors,
respectively.
Lok Sabha elections for the 40 Lok Sabha seats in Bihar will be held in seven phases between April 19 and June 1, 2024.
