Heavy to extremely heavy rainfall forecasted for Bihar, no relief for three days; IMD and Disaster Management issue alerts for these districts

New Delhi: Bihar has been experiencing continuous rainfall for the past 24 hours. Villages and cities are submerged. Schools have been closed in Siwan, Gopalganj, Rohtas, and Chhapra districts. A red alert has been declared in at least two dozen districts, including Patna. The situation is so dire that not only are roads submerged, but crops have also been destroyed. The continuous heavy rain has severely impacted road and rail transport. Several flights to Patna have been diverted.

The weather will remain same for next 3 days

According to the Meteorological Department, the weather is expected to remain bad in the state for the next three days. According to the Meteorological Department, a deep depression is active in the Bay of Bengal and is rapidly moving northwestward, due to which a warning has been issued for thunderstorms, lightning, and extremely heavy rainfall in some areas across the state, including the capital. A red alert has been issued for some districts in North and South Bihar on October 5th and 6th. No significant change in temperature is expected during the next 48 hours. A red alert has been issued for Sitamarhi, Shivhar, East Champaran, West Champaran, and Gopalganj in North Bihar on October 5.

Disaster Management Department Alert

The Disaster Management Department, Government of Bihar, and the Bihar Meteorological Service Centre, Patna, have issued an alert from October 4 to 7, forecasting heavy rainfall and thunderstorms with winds of 40-60 km/h. The Disaster Management Department has issued a red alert in Muzaffarpur and East Champaran districts and an orange alert in Patna, Vaishali, Gaya, West Champaran, Gopalganj, Aurangabad, Sitamarhi, Shivhar, Munger, Bhojpur, Siwan, Saran, Arwal, Jehanabad, Madhubani, Khagaria, and Saharsa districts.

People should not leave their homes

The Disaster Management Department has also issued guidelines for all citizens. This includes avoiding unnecessary venturing outside, sheltering under trees, power poles, or weak infrastructure, and relocating residents living in the lower reaches of the embankment to higher ground. Avoiding rivers, ponds, canals, or any other water source, and keeping children away from them. Avoiding agricultural work in open fields during rain and thunderstorms and keeping animals safe and not tying them in the open.
