The maiden railway budget of the Narendra Modi government was presented by Railway Minister DV Sadananda Gowda on Tuesday. Gowda‘s proposals in the Railway Budget 2014 focused more on development and growth and neglected populist reforms. The Narendra Modi-led government announced an ambitious project- Diamond Quadrilateral, to connect major metro cities and high growth centres.

The highlight of the Rail Budget 2014 was of the much-debated Bullet Train, as it is expected to first run on the Ahmedabad-Mumbai route. Sadanand Gowda also announced 58 new trains and extended routes of 11 existing trains. The rail budget also addressed issues of women safety, cleanliness and hygiene.
