Railway Minister DV Sadananda Gowda presented the first railway budget of Narendra Modi government on Tuesday. The Railway Budget 2014 saw many announcements made which showed that the priorities of Narendra Modi are developmental and not to please any ally or any whimsical populist measures. Gowda announced a Diamond Quadilateral network of high speed rail which will connect mmetros and major high growth centres.

DV Sadananada Gowda announced measures that focus on cleanliness, women security and hygiene among others. The highlight of the Rail Budget was the introduction of Bullet trains on the earlier identified Ahmedabad-Mumbai segment. Gowda also gave green signal to 58 new trains which include five Jansadharan trains, five Premium trains, six AC Express trains, 27 Express Trains, eight Passenger Trains, two Mainline Electric Multiple Unit (MEMU) and five Diesel Electric Multiple Units (DEMU) service trains.
