The maiden railway budget of the Narendra Modi government was presented by Railway Minister D V Sadananda Gowda on Tuesday. In his hour long railway budget speech the railway made many announcements about upgrading the existing laggard booking and sanitation structure. Gowda also announced of introducing 58 new trains and extending the routes of 11 trains.
Amid the repeated interruptions by the Opposition, Sadananda Gowda set an ambitious target of becoming the largest freight carrier in the world. The highlight of the rail budget was the introduction of much-awaited bullet train on the earlier proposed Ahmedabad-Mumbai segment. Gowda introduced five Jansadharan trains, five Premium trains, six AC Express trains, 27 Express Trains, eight Passenger Trains, two MEMU and five DEMU services trains this year.
