Aadhaar Pan Card Linking: Today is Last Day to Link Two Otherwise You Will Not Be Able To File Income Tax Return This Year

Today is the last day to link Aadhaar with your PAN card, according to the latest circular that was issued by the Central Board of Direct Taxes. Though the rule came last year, if you haven’t linked the two yet then you will not be able to file income tax return (ITR) this year. This could prove to be a costly mistake, as it could levy on you a penalty of Rs 5,000 for the ITR filed after 31st July (last date of filing return ) but before December 31, 2018. The penalty escalates to Rs 10,000 if ITR is filed after December 31.

Earlier the deadline to link Aadhaar and PAN Card was March 31, 2018 but was later extended following the direction by the Supreme Court that linking of Aadhaar with service providers should not be made mandatory until the final judgment is announced.

Log in to the website of the Income Tax Department using your username and password

Go to ‘Profile Setting’ and click on “Link Aadhaar” option.
- You will see details such as date of birth and gender already filled in the box.

Fill in your Aadhaar card number and captcha code and submit “Link now” button-

A message will show Aadhaar and PAN card has been successfully linked.
Mismatch in Aadhaar and PAN card name
In case of any mismatch in the name in your Aadhaar and PAN card the linking might not happen. In case of a minor mismatch, a One Time Password (OTP) is sent to you on the registered mobile number for the purpose of verification. If there is major correction than you first need to rectify either the mistake on your PAN card or on your Aadhaar card. You can go to the website of Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) and get the correction done through ‘Update Aadhaar Details’
