In a groundbreaking announcement, Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella launched an ‘entirely new state of matter’ that promises to revolutionize computing. After two decades of relentless research, the company has introduced Majorana 1, the world’s first quantum chip, powered by Topological Core architecture.
This technological advancement marks a significant mark in computing, harnessing the properties of new materials and topoconductors to pave the way for quantum computers capable of solving industrial-scale problems in years, rather than decades.
Tiny Chip Fits On Palm
Sharing his excitement on social media platform X (formerly Twitter), Nadella urged people to imagine a chip so small it fits in the palm of their hand yet powerful enough to tackle challenges that even the most advanced traditional computers cannot solve.
‘’After a nearly 20 year pursuit, we’ve created an entirely new state of matter, unlocked by a new class of materials, topoconductors, that enable a fundamental leap in computing,’’ Nadella wrote.

He added, ‘’We believe this breakthrough will allow us to create a truly meaningful quantum computer not in decades, as some have predicted, but in years. The qubits created with topoconductors are faster, more reliable, and smaller.’’
A couple reflections on the quantum computing breakthrough we just announced…
Most of us grew up learning there are three main types of matter that matter: solid, liquid, and gas. Today, that changed.
The breakthrough lies in the qubits the fundamental units of quantum computing crafted using topoconductors. These qubits are not only more reliable but also faster and significantly smaller than traditional qubits, measuring just 1/100th of a millimeter. This enables the development of processors containing up to one million qubits, a milestone previously thought to be decades away.
The Majorana 1 chip’s Topological Core architecture ensures greater stability and efficiency, solving one of the biggest challenges in quantum computing: error correction.
Nadella emphasized ‘’This is our focus: When productivity rises, economies grow faster, benefiting every sector and every corner of the globe. It’s not about hyping tech; it’s about building technology that truly serves the world.’’
