After Tata Group, Motherson Group and Aequs, Bharat Forge is likely to become the fourth Indian company to manufacture components for the Apple iPhone series. Apple has been focusing on India in the last couple of years as the American tech giant eyes shifting a major portion of its manufacturing base out of China.

According to reports, Apple and Bharat Forge are in talks to set up a plant for making iPhone components in India, however, there has been no official confirmation about these discussions from either company so far.

Apple focusing on India, moving away from China

Notably, a majority of Apple’s component suppliers are based in India, with Foxconn running multiple iPhone assembly plants in in Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, and Telangana. The Taiwanese contract manufacturer is assembling the iPhone 16 Pro and Pro Max models at its Sriperumbudur plant in Tamil Nadu, according to reports.

Additionally, the Tata Group — the first domestic manufacturer of iPhones in India, is also setting up iPhone assembly plants in Karnataka and Tamil Nadu, including the Hosur plant, a 250-acre facility that will have around 20 assembly lines and is expected to employ around 50,000 people.

According to experts, Apple aims to increase iPhone production in India as part of its strategy to diversify production from China. The tech titan aims to manufacture million iPhones in India annually by 2030.

In 2024, Apple reportedly manufactured iPhones worth $17.5 billion in India, a exported a record-setting $12.8 billion worth of iPhones from the country.
