August 31 The Last Date to Link Aadhaar With PAN For ITR to be Processed

New Delhi, August 30: August 31 is the last date to link Aadhaar number with the Permanent Account Number (PAN) and the Income Tax department is unlikely to extend the deadline. The failure to link the two would result in non-processing of I-T Returns (ITR).

The deadline was extended following complaints that taxpayers were unable to link their Aadhaar with the PAN because of different names in the two databases. But the department is not mulling to extend the deadline as it believed that enough time is being given to the taxpayers, sources said as reported by the Times of India. “Not to the best of my knowledge,” said a senior tax official when asked whether the date for linking PAN and Aadhaar would be extended.

Here’s how you can link Aadhaar number with PAN

Add India.com as a Preferred Source

Visit www.incometaxindiaefiling.gov.in and click on ‘Link Aadhaar’ option that is on the left side of the website.
Enter your PAN, Aadhaar number and Name as per Aadhaar card and Click on ‘Link Aadhaar’. After verification from UIDAI the linking of two IDs will be confirmed.
Your personal details including name, date of birth and gender will appear if you are a registered user. Now you need to verify details on the screen with the one mentioned on your Aadhaar card. If the details match, enter your Aadhaar card number and captcha code and click on the “Link now” button.
On completion of the process, a pop-up message will inform you about successful linkage.
If you are not a registered user, first register on the Income tax e-filing portal and sign-in to the portal by entering your log-in ID, password and date of birth. A pop-up window will appear after logging in to the site, assisting you to link your Aadhaar with the PAN.

In July, the I-T department had extended the last date for filing of ITRs for the financial year 2016-17 to August 5. The original deadline was July 31, 2017.

Aadhaar number is issued by the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) to a resident of India while PAN is a 10-digit alphanumeric number allotted by the I-T department to a person, firm or entity.
